According to the consumers, Club La Costa contacts them through telephone calls or letters and say that they have won a free almost all-expense vacation. After that, the representatives of the company do a sales pitch. Since the representatives say that they won a free holiday, the consumers are left with no choice. Some of them availed the services of the company only to find out that they were just tricked.

Penman and Sommerlad has received many complaints. They also said that the Independent Timeshare Consumers Association always received complaints; at least one complaint per day against Club La Costa.
